This past semester was another one for the record books for DU at KSU. We undergraduates brought home the prestigious honor of being declared the “Fraternity of the Year”! We also took home several other awards along with Brother Joey Manilla winning the “Interfraternity Council Academic Excellence Award” with a GPA of 3.94!
Our Spring Associate Member class of 6 men was initiated on May 22, 2010, bringing the undergraduate chapter size to 45. The best part is that our new members have already started taking on positions within the fraternity. This upcoming semester we’re hoping for another large associate member class and big plans are already underway as many individuals have already shown interest in joining DU this upcoming fall, through the use of the Universities Fraternity Interest Form that can be found online.
Also this fall the Brothers of Delta Upsilon are on yet another mission, and that is to raise $5,000 to put towards our philanthropy, The Dylan Fitzgerald Carlton Endowed Scholarship. We created this scholarship in honor of our Advisor, Donna Carlton, sons untimely passing. We are taking great strides to accomplish this and have never been more proud to extend the right hand of sympathy in doing so.
I am also proud to announce the many brothers this past semester that had run and were elected to other active roles inside the university. Those being: David Kanotz as the Senator for the College of Nursing, Chad Budy as the Director of Student Advancement, Jeff Hammond as the Director of Programming, Brett Fodor as the Director of Academic Affairs, and Justin Pierce being elected as the Executive Director. I would say that is quite an accomplishment and once again reiterates the quote, “a DU in everything, and every DU in something.”
On another note I recently had the pleasure to sit down with a few prominent names from within the university and get to hear their viewpoints on Delta Upsilon. I am extremely honored to tell you that we received much praise for many different facets of Greek life and are looked upon to be the guiding light for the rest of Greek life here at Kent State University.
Our hopes are now higher then ever before and our newly elected Executive Board is ready and willing to take us there knowing that we are now the “hunted.” Many plans have already been put in motion and are being acted upon before the school year has even started, so therefore we can hit the ground running, and have the honor of being named “Fraternity of the Year” once again.
Your President,
Eddie Walaszewski
